The Santonian Stage in Volsk-Khvalynsk Structural Zone. Paper 2. Biostratigraphy and the Modern Structural Position

The fossil assemblage taxonomical composition analysis of upper Coniacianlower Santonian, upper Santonian and lower Campanian deposits is demonstrated. The upper Coniacian and lower Santonian deposits planoconformity has been recorded, the thin upper Santonian deposits presence has been proved and the lower Campanian subface position has been defined. Fractional biostratigraphy subdivision of the Coniacian – lower Campanian interval was carried out. The distinguished strata were traced within Volsk-Khvalynsky district.

The Reversal Polarity Zone in Turonian-Coniacian of the Northern End of DonoMedvediza Dislocations

The Gubkino Horizon (Turonian-Coniacian) in the Bolshoy Kamenny ovrag section (Zhirnovsk town, Volgograd Region) has not been purposefully studied so far. As a result of biostratigraphic and magnetostratigraphic researches the carbonate rocks of the Gubkino Horizon were first divided into zones based on benthic foraminifera complexes and characterized by geomagnetic polarity and rock-magnetism data. The most part of the Bolshoy Kamenny ovrag section is covered by the reverse polarity zone.

Cribricyaths of the Lower Cambrian Oldynda Suite (Western Transbaikalia)

A large number of cribricyaths previously considered as archaeocyathan larvae was found in the carbonate deposits of Oldynda suite. Described by A. G. Vologdin in 1932 cribricyaths are characteristic of the lower Cambrian deposits of Ural-Mongolian belt and are rarely found outside of it. They are known from the Tommotian of Altai-Sayan folded area and their further development took place on the periphery of the Siberian platform.

Volcanogenic material in upper jurassic-lower cretaceous deposits of the Eastern Russian plate and its sources

Widespread “camouflaged” pyroclastics including smectite, illite-smectite and heulandite are detected in the upper jurassic– lower cretaceous deposits of the Ulyanovsk-Saratov basin. Moreover, volcanic glasses are found in several stratigraphic units. The quantity of pyroclastic material in the study section (17–72%) is probably related to volcanic input in the basin. Concentrations of the trace and rare earth elements point to a predominantly acid source of ash material, except the Promzino and Ulyanovsk black shale formations linked to the mixed andesite-basaltic and felsic sources.

Structural features of the lower permian salt-bearing series and the character of salt-tectogenesis manifestations in the northern and northwestern margins of the Сaspian depression. Paper 1

The detailed evaluation of the accumulated geological-geophysical data, particularly on the inner structure of the saltbearing series in the margins of the Caspian Depression, the mechanism of salt-tectogenesis manifestation, its reflection in the structure of the salt table and association with the structural inhomogeneities of the subsalt bed is presented. The authors attempt to acquire additional indirect criteria for predicting the structure of the subsalt bed by means of analyzing the structure of the salt-bearing series and the character of salt-tectogenesis manifestation.

Geological and geophysical analysis of morphological structures of the central type in the Eastern European platform territory and its connection with hydrocarbon fields

Correlative interrelation of hydrocarbon field arrangement and morphological structures of the central type is revealed. Possible natural mechanisms of morphological structures formation of the central type are considered. By results of geological and geophysical interpretation of magnetic prospecting, gravity prospecting, heat floor data the deep structure of these morphological structures is shown.

Influence of zeolitization on the migration of reservoir fluids on the example of jurassic and neocomian deposits (Yamal oil and gas region)

To assess the influence of zeolite group minerals on the migration of reservoir fluids in terrigenous deposits, complex (X-ray and gas-geochemical) studies of core material in the Yamal oil and gas region field were conducted. 54 core samples from the Pyakyakhinsky and Yuzhno-Messoyakhsky deposits were studied including 43 zeolitized and 11 non-zeolitized samples.

Structural features of the lower Permian salt-bearing series and the character of salt-tectogenesis manifestations in the Caspian Depression. Paper II

The article presents the analysis of the inner structure of the salt-bearing series within the Caspian Depression. Certain salt-bearing complexes of various ages, compositions and plastic properties are distinguished. Their structural relations and the features of salt-tectogenesis manifestation are evaluated. Up to the present no subsalt uplifts have been confirmed in the Russian sector of the Caspian Depression and no HC fields have been discovered.

Genus Tremabolites Zittel, 1878 (Porifera, Hexactinellida)

Tremabolites sponges known among the Middle-Late Cretaceous beds in Europe are reliably identifiable due to the numerous openings against the background of the skeleton smooth upper surface. The ideas of the level of organization in these sponges and of the species characteristics are far from being univocal. The paper deals with the species diversity of Tremabolites common in the Coniacian – Santonian rocks from the Volga Region. Examples of regeneration and budding in the representatives of the group are presented.

Kimmeridgian–Volgian ostracods of Samarskaya Luka: Paleoecological analysis and reflection of sedimentation conditions in rock magnetism

The analysis of the distribution of the Kimmeridgian–Volgian ostracods in the section near the village Valy made it possible to establish a sequence of eight communities, the change of which reflects changes in the ecological conditions in the basin. Changes in sea level fluctuations, the main physical and chemical parameters of the ostracod habitat – temperature, salinity of water, oxygen content in it, eutrophy and concentration of organic matter in sediment – are reconstructed. Information on the magnetic susceptibility and its increase after heating was obtained.

The investigation of the scale effect on porosity in Bashkirian limestones

The article presents the methodology of the representative elementary volume definition for two 1 m long whole core segments. Scientific articles focused on practical methods of representative volume calculations using various physical parameter fluctuations have been studied. Porosity values of every whole core fragment evaluated in two ways using the 7.3 cm diameter core samples in the first approach and the 3 cm diameter core samples in the second one have been compared.

Ichthyofauna of the border sediments of the Severodvinsky and Vyatsky stages in the Late Permian localities in the west of the Orenburg region (Samara river basin)

A detailed study of the section of the severodvinsky and vyatsky stages of the Upper Permian with layer-by-layer sampling of ichthyofauna in the western part of the Orenburg region (basin of the lower reaches of the Samara River) was carried out. Based on the fish complexes, a paleontological justification of the stratigraphic boundary between the severodvinsky and vyatsky stages was obtained in the region for the first time.

Some regularities of change in density in the lithosphere of Northern Eurasia

A method is proposed for calculating the normal compaction curve of rocks for the deep parts of the lithosphere. It is based on the analysis of petrophysical characteristics and interpretation of gravitational anomalies. The main regularities of density changes in the lithosphere of Northern Eurasia are investigated.

New data about Upper Jurassic formations of the Ulyanovsk-Saratov through and the northern part of the Peri-Сaspian Syneclise

A detailed description of the Upper Jurassic formations of the south of the European part of Russia, mainly restricted by the Kimmeridgian and Volgian stages, is given. The characteristic of the reference section is provided for the Vechkusy Formation, and the neostratotype is proposed for the Novikovka Formation. The criteria for drawing the boundaries of local stratigraphic units (formations) and the features of strata distribution are considered in detail.

The investigation of the porosity scale effect and elastic anisotropy in Bashkirian limestones

The article presents the methodology of the representative elementary volume definition for 1 m long whole core segments. Scientific articles focused on factors controlling elastic properties are analysed. Terms of additivity and nonadditivity for physical properties of rocks are discussed. The algorithm of core sampling including drilling out of three perpendicular core samples for estimation of elastic anisotropy was used.

Seismic gravimetric modeling in geological problems of Saratov region sections

Geological and geophysical modeling is a modern and classic method of processing and interpretation, which is relevant in the segment of geological exploration of any geophysical method. The article presents the material of two-dimensional modeling based on the results of gravity and seismic exploration in the licensed areas of the Saratov region.

Assessment of the facial affiliation of local oil and gas objects based on geophysical data

In the established practice of geological exploration for oil and gas conclusions about the facies belonging of the rocks of oil and gas basins and individual exploration areas were made mainly on the basis of the study of core material. Recently for this purpose the results of seismic exploration and well logging have been used. Geophysical methods despite their obvious progress are indirect and intermittent core sampling and incomplete coring make facies analysis difficult.

Oil as the result of lithogenesis complicated by intensification of tectonic-hydrothermal activity (on the example of Western Siberia)

The paper is meant to prove that structural reconstruction of riftogenic basins is accompanied by the intensification of tectonichydrothermal activity. It controls the mobility of gaseous-liquid hydrocarbons during their primary and lateral migration in the process of deposit formation. The intensity index of tectonic-hydrothermal activation is equal to the ratio of maximum paleotemperatures of gaseous-liquid inclusions to the paleotemperatures calculated from vitrinite reflectance values.

Physical and geological model of the Shalkar earthquake focal zone

The Shalkar earthquake focal zone is characterized by the strongest earthquakes of all that occurred in the southeast of the East – European Platform. A physical and geological model has been developed, on the basis of which the parameters of the Shalkar earthquake focal zone have been determined, which can be used to assess the intensity of shaking from possible earthquakes. The relationship between earthquakes in the southeast of the East European platform and deformations in the mantle is shown.
